Street Maintenance and Paving
For the 2021 Fiscal Year the city budgeted $1,200,000 for paving. Approximately 50 miles of streets have been paved between 2016 -2020. An effective paving program will pave 15 miles of streets each year with a total expenditure of $1,200,000. In coming years, the paving budget will be increased $100,000 per year to meet the paving demand for the city. To view the current paving list, click the links below.
FAQ:Why did my street not get paved?
Streets are graded by city engineering staff on a yearly basis. Street paving is completed based on the street ratings and not particular location in a Ward. Roads with the lowest rating are given priority over higher graded streets. This approach maximizes paving dollars to address the most critical streets each year.
Note: Once construction at the schools along Arrow Drive is complete in 2020, the street will be paved as funding is available. Construction traffic damages streets and subsurface stability.
Storm Drains
Public Works crews maintain drainage ways located within the City easements. This maintenance includes repairing sinkholes over drainpipes and along lined ditches, cleaning and preventative maintenance. A certified, bonded contractor conducts herbicide applications for certain improved ditches three (3) times per growing season.
Street Lighting
Entergy Mississippi maintains street lights within the city of Clinton, along all 175 miles of streets and in most parks. Except for decorative street lights along the Clitnon Parkway and Olde Towne Clinton, Entergy is responsible for replacing faulty and burnt out street lights.
Bridges
There are numerous bridgers and culverts that lie within the city's limits. The City of Clinton has primary ownership and maintenance responsibility for these bridges and culverts. Inspections are completed each year by the county bridge inspector and the state bridge inspector. Please obey posted weight limits for bridges in the city.
Three bridges are rated as Five (5) ton weight limits. They are:
- Bridge over Bakers Creek on Midway Road; and
- Bridge over Bogue Chitto Relief on Kickapoo Road; and
- Bridge over Bogue Chitto Creak on Cynthia Road
