Expressive Music Making

Have you ever wanted to make music, but never had any interest in taking lessons? Or maybe you're simply a lover of music and want to learn a new hobby. Well, the Therapeutic Recreation Department has a program just for you! We offer leisure music making without the barriers of music lessons. This is a program that you can engage in on your own schedule and at your own pace at the Wood Center. Participants have the opportunity to play independently while using a specially programmed music Arranger. Special books make playing easy to follow by providing step-by-step instructions. You’re not learning to play a keyboard, you’re learning to make music and that's the overall goal!

Participants will have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the Arranger and the special settings used to make music at their leisure. The Arranger looks and sounds like your typical keyboard, but it is truly so much more than that. Benefits to participating in a program such as this include: Reduced boredom, improved cognition, redirected leisure time, promotion of relaxation and mindfulness, an increased self esteem. Call our office for more information and to register for the introductory workshop.

Introductory Workshop - July 13th at 1PM. One-on-one sessions can be scheduled by calling our office at 601.924.6387.
