The A.E. Wood Activity and Therapeutic Center houses the City of Clinton’s Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Department. The facility is over 10,000 square feet and was originally built in 1969. The building was remodeled in 2013. The Therapeutic Recreation Department provides activities and programs for therapeutic purposes to individuals in the Living Young program who are age 50 and over and the Abilities program for individuals ages 6 and up with developmental, cognitive, or physical disabilities.

The facility has an exercise station that includes exercise bikes, a treadmill and two types of elliptical machines. The facility also has a kitchen, small conference room, office space, lounge area, and restrooms.

The Wood Activity Center is open Monday through Friday from 9AM until 5PM. No reservations required to use equipment. Participants are asked to check schedules for restricted use of pool table during some programs.

Expressive Music Making

Have you ever wanted to make music, but never had any interest in taking lessons? Or maybe you're simply a lover of music and want to learn a new hobby. Well, the Therapeutic Recreation Department has a program just for you! We offer leisure music making without the barriers of music lessons. This is a program that you can engage in on your own schedule and at your own pace at the Wood Center. Participants have the opportunity to play independently while using a specially programmed music Arranger. Special books make playing easy to follow by providing step-by-step instructions. You’re not learning to play a keyboard, you’re learning to make music and that's the overall goal!

Participants will have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the Arrangerand the special settings used to make music at their leisure. The Arranger looks and sounds like your typical keyboard, but it is truly so much more than that. Benefits to participating in a program such as this include: Reduced boredom, improved cognition, redirected leisure time, promotion of relaxation and mindfulness, an increased self esteem.

One-on-one introductory sessions can be scheduled by calling our office at 601.924.6387.
