Before Visiting

Whether relocating or visiting “You Belong” in Clinton. From the Olde Towne Markets to the award winning schools, Clinton is working hard to help people find a place where they belong. Below are five things you need to know before you visit Clinton that will help you connect.

1. Start your visit at the Clinton Visitor Center.

Start your visit on a high note at the Clinton Visitor Center located at 1300 Pinehaven Road
Clinton, MS 39056 (Mile marker 89 Exit off the Natchez Trace Parkway).  Our visitor center has the look and authentic charm of the period farmhouses once located along the Natchez Trace.  Bricks are a native building material and the handmade bricks used here are the same bricks used in Monticello and Mount Vernon.  Cypress, reclaimed from a century old sugar mill that was demolished in  South Louisiana, is used for porch posts and railings, the fireplace mantel and  front counter.

Come sit on the porch in our rockers, picnic on the beautifully landscaped grounds, view the artifacts and photos inside and enjoy internet access including wireless.  With changing exhibits throughout the year, our museum highlights the history of the Trace and Clinton.  Hosting many local gatherings, the meeting room  provides a venue for musical jam sessions each weekend.   The reception area includes a shop where you can purchase work from local artisans including pottery, jewelry, books and delicious Mississippi food products.

We are here to provide information about Clinton as well as along the Natchez Trace. Our promise is that we will provide you the warmest welcome that you will find anywhere in the world.

3. More than education

Clinton’s cultural opportunities are second to none in the area. Enjoy our growing art community and view the sculptures of nationally recognized artist Dr. Sam Gore as well as the water color paintings of regionally renowned painter Wyatt Waters. Each year, Mississippi College sponsors fascinating speakers - such as Dr. Condoleezza Rice - sharing information and antidotes on timely topics of great interest. And our Main Street volunteers host “Dinner and a Movie” eight times each year – so bring your chair and enjoy the friendliness of neighbors and friends old and new. Throughout the year, our varied activities range from the “Brick Street Festival”, “Cruzin Clinton” car show, local/regional softball and soccer tournaments, the Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza, and the “Fresh at Five” market.

Our 43 churches offer a variety of religious activities.

4. Bring your walking shoes

Our downtown historic brick streets, constructed in 1929, welcome you to a charming Olde Towne community. With many historic homes throughout this district, you can walk back into a time when life was slower and enjoy Southern hospitality at its best. Bordered by Mississippi College, Olde Towne enjoys a great mix of students and families browsing through antique shops and an old book store. Take a leisurely walk along tree lined streets without the worry of busy traffic laden streets. Take a jog on one of five walking trails located in one of our award winning parks.

5. Get back to nature…

Our 6 recreational facilities offer over 100 activities including softball/soccer/baseball, square dancing, tennis, basketball, and Frisbee golf. Kids Towne Park, built by community volunteers, offers a unique, child friendly experience, enjoyed by thousands of our youngest citizens. The privately run Clinton Nature Center offers an opportunity to learn the value of nature in an unspoiled environment.
