Cynthia Road Bridge Open to the Public
Replacement of the Cynthia Road Bridge in Clinton has been completed and reopened to traffic. Cynthia Road is an important connector for Clinton residents accessing the city from U.S. Highway 49.
The $863,019.50 project was completed in seven monthhs.Higher than average rainfall during the months of May and June caused delays in the replacement of the roadbed.Due to new flood plain elevations, the bridge was required to be raised an additional fifteen (15”) inches. This necessitated the elevation of the approaches to the bridge fifteen (15”) inches in each direction. Existing asphalt was removed, and new base layers were installed. The higher-than-normal rainfall hindered this process and prevented the proper compaction of soil/aggregate prior to paving of the road.
Additional road and bridge projects are slated for completion in 2021. Midway Road bridge replacement has begun following design approvals from MDOT.
The City of Clinton appreciates the patience of the residents as the extremely wet May and June delayed completion of the project.
