Active Shooter Drill
The Clinton Police Department and the Clinton Fire Department, in coordination with Mississippi College, will facilitate a full-scale active shooter exercise on Tuesday, May 10 beginning at 8 AM at one of the buildings on the Mississippi College campus.
Police officers, firefighters, multiple local and state agencies, and school personnel will be participating in the exercise. Plans for the exercise have been ongoing for the past few months.
This release will serve as a notification to residents of Clinton that the activities and enhanced police presence on the campus of Mississippi College on Tuesday, May 10, are part of a drill and not an immediate threat.
An Incident Command Post and a Joint Information Center will be tested to measure each location’s capabilities to mobilize quickly and handle the influx of people to their areas.
Law enforcement personnel and others will participate in a mock press conference during this exercise. The exact location of the JIC will be determined on Tuesday. The media is invited to join Amanda Jones, PIO for the City of Clinton, at the exercise. Public Information Officers representing multiple agencies will be on-site to test media management, message control, and rumor control.
Following the mock press conference, the media will be invited onto the campus to get a B-roll of the exercise for their reporting purposes. We invite outlets to send any reporters to cover the exercise and hone their reporting skills, as we test our ability to respond to an emergency scenario.
Please call or email Amanda Jones with any questions regarding this exercise. Jones will provide an exact location and time for media.
